Read more. Ask a question. Write a review. I brought this bike as a way to get back into trials. I was completely wrong. I consider the bike to be light agile. I replaced with some relevantly cheap pads from Tarty a week after purchase and no complaints, the brake holds well and solved the issue. The other thing is, personally I think I will soon change the front brake - I weigh 81kg, perhaps a little too much for the brake.

I will get many years out of this bike. I have no regrets in this purchase at all. Hi Nathan - thanks for the detailed review. We're really glad to hear you like your new bike! We hope you have a lot of fun on it. Just regarding the front brake, discs do take a little while to bed in, so the more you ride the more the power of the brake should come in. You'll know if it's fully bedded in because the full braking area of the rotor where the pads contact will be a really shiny mirror finish.

If you need any help with this at all, feel free to get in touch and we'll do our best to help. Other than that, thanks once again for the review, and enjoy your new bike. I got this bike 2 weeks ago, specifically to replace an Echo 24" bike I cracked After 2. Having ridden the GU for 2 weeks I reckon I'm in a good position to review it now. The GU rides like a competition bike, with a long wheelbase, short chainstays, high BB and low bars, and is very comfortable on the back wheel compared to the street biased 24" bikes Including being longer and more comfortable on the back wheel than the Jitsie Varial Hybrid that I bought to tide me over between the Echo frame breaking last autumn and this coming in stock - that feels cramped but fun as it spins really well and getting weight on either wheel takes little effort.

I did find that with the low rise bars and relatively short horizontal reach on the stem - I measure mine to be a x 50 degree rather than the x 30 in the bike info however - that it was very difficult to get anywhere near the front wheel balance point.

Even though I already had lots of weight on the bars rolling with both wheels on the ground, because the bars were still effectively behind the front axle, there was no leverage to lift the back wheel. Swapping to mm ish rise bars rolled forward about half way has fixed this, as well as making it feel even better on the back wheel - Possibly I'm slightly too tall for the stock bike reach at 1.

The only remaining issue at the moment is that I can't make the bike bunnyhop at all, when I could on the previous 24" Echo frames The main attraction of 24" bikes is that they bunnyhop, pop to back wheel and spin like mod bikes, but still roll on rough ground almost as well as 26" bikes , and rolling hops also don't work well because of the length of the bike, again emphasising the competition geometry over street geometry.

I swapped my Hope trials brakes over to the GU the day I got it Using a disk specific back wheel from the old bike, as I dislike the maintenance and noise of rim brakes. I might also change the pedals eventually as pinned pedals do a lot less damage to my shins than platforms when I slip off them, but the pedals the bike came with are very grippy and comfortable, so it's not an urgent issue.

The bearings in one pedal were much stiffer to turn than the other though, but it's freeing out a little at this stage. In terms of the build as shipped, one feature that should be noted is that the chain ships closed with a joining link Presumably from the factory - I can't see Tartybikes choosing to do this themselves as it's not recommended practice for trials bikes.

Another quirk is that the headset bearings on the tapered headset are a sliding rather than a press fit fit into the frame and were assembled dry. There is no crown race either, and the lower bearing just sits against the steerer where it flares out to meet the fork crown. The loose fit is not an issue as by design, the force from tightening the star nut will make this fit tight by spreading the bearings, and it's been completely creak free so far I greased the contact surfaces of the bearings before reassembling.

I don't think there's a better bike on the market for the riding I do Difficult For me but not dangerous lines would be the best summary of my riding - mostly on paved surfaces because the local geology here is bog, combined with wet limestone, which sets a difficulty and danger level significantly higher than my abilities can accommodate.

Hi Cormac - thanks for the detailed review! It's great to hear you're enjoying your new bike. Just to reply to a few points: - We're not quite sure where the stem measurements you've found have come from, sorry! Echo don't make a stem with a x50 geometry. It would be noticeably different to their standard x If you're measuring the stem geometry with the stem fitted to the bike that may explain it - all our stem measurements are taken with the rise of the stem being measured from horizontal, with the base of the steerer clamp horizontal too.

The initial phase of lifting either wheel is a little harder just due to the additional length, but you do benefit from more stability when you're on either wheel. It won't be as capable as a street-orientated 24" bike, but the geometry allows it to out-perform a street bike in other areas. This is how we've always assembled the headsets on all the bikes we sell featuring integrated headsets, and we've never had issues with customers having creaking headsets.

Hopefully this helps, but if you have any other questions about the bike feel free to let us know! Geometry is awesome and allows large moves as with a 26" but 24" wheels make the bike easier to ride. All components are wisely chosen to make the bike performing and easy to maintain. Hi Florian - Thanks for the review, I'm glad you like your new bike!

I hope you continue to have fun riding it. I am very happy with this bike. I feel very comfortable on it at 5ft 11". Wouldn't change anything on it.

This bike looks even better in person than it does in the pictures.
