There are plenty of great indie horror games on Itch. One great example of this is the short horror experience Night Shift, which is available for download on Patreon and as part of the Scary Tales Vol. In this game, the player works the night shift at a small gas station, and they spend the night mostly doing boring chores and serving customers. However, the player is soon put on edge when they notice a strange, white van circling the area. Released in , White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a relatively obscure Korean survival horror game and a remake of the title of the same name.

New transfer student Lee Hui-min sneaks into his high school at night to place a White Day gift on the desk of his crush, Han So-young. He immediately gets trapped in the school and discovers that several other students, including So-young herself, are trapped with him.

To overcome the mysteries of the school and escape, the player will need to solve puzzles, talk to the other characters, and avoid enemies such as possessed janitors and various ghosts. With multiple endings, secret ghosts, and hidden items, there is plenty of replay value. It's impossible to talk about these kinds of survival horror games without talking about one of the influential pioneers of this horror gaming sub-genre : Clock Tower: The First Fear.

Although neither version was ever released officially outside of Japan, many fan translations exist, and the sequels were officially translated. Based on the films by Italian film director Dario Argento, the game follows a young orphan girl named Jennifer who, shortly after getting adopted by a wealthy family, has to survive against a serial killer known as the Scissorman.

With many endings and several rooms changing every playthrough, this game still stands out as an innovative title even all these years later.

As the player plays through the game, they will frequently have to check the game files, talk with the glitch lifeform, and restart the game to proceed.
